Finally, the long awaited and dreaded husting day is here. Each candidate is required to give a 3 minutes speech and then will be questioned by current SRC members and audience. Thanks to all my friends for support and for those who do not have the chance to witness my speech, I can tell you that the atmosphere was amazing, I didn't get to record down my speech but here is exactly what I have spoken and hope u enjoy reading it:
"Good afternoon to all SRC members, ladies and gentleman. I am standing here not just as a candidate, but as a voice of all IMU students. Throughout my time in IMU I have witnessed problems suffered by my friends, and some of them, experienced by myself as well. And when there are problems existing, they must be fixed. Umbrellas in guard house, a guard outside IMU to control traffic, a miniclinic in IMU, these are necessary measures to protect safety and health of IMU students. Small changes, I believe, can make big difference.
Lets take a second and imagine we are in a country far far away as a student, alone without friends, struggling with culture shock, what would we do? This is the kind of helplessness suffered by international students in IMU. As friendly and helpful Malaysians, it is our duty to help them adapt and settle. Instead of letting them explore blindly, why don't we bring Malaysia to them, a tour around and a senior buddy is exactly what they need.
WE, medical students, will contribute directly to the community after graduating. To contribute, we first need to know what's happening around us. By actively promoting social events happening worldwide, enhancing the currently successful Charity Run and improving the charity home tutorial system, this open routes for us to help the needy and at the same time benefit by developing social awareness.
All of us here are IMU students, we study under the same roof so why need segregation when unity is strength? Instead of the usual everyday come to school and study routine, why not we get to know more friends, regardless of race, batch and course, just to make our life here more meaningful? IMU Unity Day, Freshie Interaction night, Friendship day and the interesting speed dating are proposed just to at least add more smiles in the faces of IMU students.
I do not need this job, I WANT IT, coz I believe i can make a difference, the job needs me, why? SImple, BECAUSE I CARE. Before I end the speech, I would like to dedicate this to all IMU students, coz no matter what happen (pause)

The Reason
No posts throughout the weekends, life without labtop is pretty miserable, at least for me, but now I am back, answering some questions frequently hurled at me by some of my friends.
Why run for SRC?
I am always a guy fascinated with politics, I follow Malaysian election closely, I am a big fan of Barack Obama, I enjoy speaking in public and campaigning is something which appear really fun for me. To be honest since sem 1 participating in my first SRC voting, I have always wanted to be part of it, coz I see the difference it can make on IMU students.
Why social rep?
There are people around who keep asking me, why social rep when u can opt for higher position? For me position doesn't matter coz I believe each positions are equally important, each has its own way of contributing to students, they are just names. I am not someone who crave for power and position, job satisfaction matters. I have considered treasurer, based on my experience as 4 to 5 treasurers in IMU, I have thought of Culture & Religious rep, main reason is coz my unexpected presidency in chinese cultural society gave me the motivation, but eventually I opted for social concerns. The reason? Simple, it is the job that in the most direct way solve student's problem, approaches student directly and listen to them, exactly what I wanted to do.
What about studies?
The main reason all of us are here in IMU is to study and graduate from IMU, if we don't score well, nothing else matters, unfortunately thats the cruel fact. I have thought bout this and I knew my study would be pretty messed up, already pretty messed up coz i am a RESPONSIBILITY COMES FIRST, study go next person. I was so worried bout my study that i changed my decision to run or not to run for at least 10 times!! Ask some of my close friends and they will tell that I am really confused that time, and finally I make a last minute decision to submit the entry form coz I believe in myself, I believe I would eventually adapt and learn to juggle, but would I? That remains to be seen.
Giving up all current positions, is it worth it?
When I apply for SRC I was never informed that I would be required to resign from all club positions to concentrate on my job. N currently I have let go class treasurer, ping pong club treasurer and president of chinese cultural society. Its kinda hard to do so and it hurts me more than anything. Especially in the chinese society when I was the president for a month, trying really hard to improve on various stuffs including the current chinese singing competition committee. I was given faith by committee members and I sorta felt my departure let them down, but fortunately I have found a reliable successor in Irene. People ask when u can sit comfortably as president and treasurer, when u r right on the peak of ur co-curriculum, is letting everything go for a small position in SRC worth it? First, it is not a small position, second, i believe it worth all the sacrifice if my job can guarantee IMU student a better life, as simple as that. It is a whole new learning process and I believe I am on the right track.
Why campaign when already won uncontested?
My competitors, Tamaraichelvi and Vanessa, are really nice and amazing people, even though they decide to pull out at the end. Thats y I am not taking this job for granted or taking it as though I have already won because I need the vote of confidence from IMU. At the same time i am rooting for my batchmates because I believe in them, that is why my poster is on, I go from batches to batches to try convince people and I try really hard in preparing a good speech, these efforts will eventually pay off, I believe.
It is sorta like a short reply to the Frequently Asked Questions by people around, hope you feel they are good ones, and keep the response coming, I need them!!

Fellow Runmates
Missed a night of post coz i m really too tired and too sick yesterday. But thanks for concern, i m feeling better d, just tired coz lack of sleep. Anyways, I am a guy filled with emotions, whether I am happy or sad, its clearly written on my face, and when I am really tired, I just don't talk much. You might think that this is not a good thing, but I feel that we humans has emotions, thats what make this world and everyone so unique.
And two weeks after losing my laptop, i slowly experienced how difficult life is for students without a computer at home, and how important is the school's com lab is to them, slowly understand the true meaning of "appreciation". But as I always say, y do human always need to lose something before learning how to treasure it?
Back to business, today I am shifting away from my campaign to talk about some of my batchmates also running for SRC.

Position Running for : Vice President (Pharmacy)
My roomate for more than 3 years, one of my best friend and (former) batch rep of P1/07. I don't think there is any need to discuss how great he can be, dedicated and very effective in completing responsibilities. Just watch out for his sense of erm....sarcasm!!

Position Running for: Treasurer
Hmm...She has been like a sister to me for some time. Very cute girl, yet energetic and commanding in her own way. The fact that I encouraged her to run for this post makes it even better! Vote for her and I guarantee your money is in a pair of safe hands!
Name: Adelin Yong
Position Running For: Public Relations Liaison
Very sweet and friendly girl, always smiling, always willing to help. Great PR skills, communicating with people surely is not a problem for her!!
Name: Soon Chun Kang
Position Running for: Sports Rep
This guy is truely amazing, he played more than 10 kinds of sports and are good in almost all of them! Great fitness, stamina and brain as well! Who is a candidate to win the sports rep other than him?
Name: Chua Sin Wee
Position Running For: Cultural and Religious rep
Strong, determined, independent and decisive, this girl stands firm in what she believe and has all the quality it takes to make a successful leader. Outspoken and not afraid to voice out her opinion, we need a voice of her in SRC!
So vote for them, not because they are from pharmacy, not because they are my batchmates, but because you feel they are capable. The choice is yours!! Gotta go get some well needed sleep, campaign in 5 batches start tomorrow!!

Theme Song
This picture is taken in IMU atrium, 10.30 p.m. at night (don't worry the photo is not haunted), also the time when I realize how important friendship is in our life... One of my assignment as social rep is to do the backdrop for the recruitment drive, with limited time and limited help, getting sick doesn't make things better. Luckily two of my friends, you zhuan and ching yik, who are both quite sick as well, lend their helping hands, and together at night, listening to oldies in IMU atrium we worked together to complete the backdrop. So just wanna thank them for the effort!! Wouldn't have finished it tonight without them.... Even though its a very simple backdrop design, unity really saves time!!
Oh ya kinda forget about the theme song, I have a theme song for my campaign!! Its called "I'll Stand By You" performed by various artistes before but my favourite is the one by Carrie Underwood. So try to read to lyrics carefully and you will get the message I wanna send to all IMU students.

Manifesto
Lots of people ask me, why do you want to contest for SRC when its such a time and energy consuming position. The answer is simple " coz i wanna make a difference, a change in IMU!!" So here is what I plan to do if i win the election:(I know its kinda long but do read it k? YOur comments will be very valuable to me)
1) Based on 3W’s
a) First W- Welfare of IMU students
- Survey Forms. Conduct survey every months, look into problems and find ways to
solve. YOUR concerns are also MY concerns!!
- Actively promote counseling sessions among IMU students to solve personal problems.
- Prepare umbrellas beside guard house, students can register and use umbrella during
rainy days. Prevent students from getting wet in the rain and get sick.
- Opening of mini clinic in IMU, providing basic medicines and first aid, for emergency.
- For new students, provide a detailed survival guide, including ways to got food,
accommodation, a copy of IMU map, plus a list of where all lecturers are seated and
their extension numbers, to prevent confusion and ease finding.
- Improve cleanliness of canteen, toilets and other areas. Conduct weekly cleanliness
check. Increase canteen’s table number, demand improvement of food quality and
reduction of food price. Make sure floor is not slippery to prevent accident.
- Place a new guard around the road in front of IMU in hours of heavy traffic. As I have
witnessed students have difficulty crossing the road and accidents almost happen.
- Improve TV facilities in student lounge. Students need more TVs and ASTRO service!!
If possible add a new Playstation 2 in student lounge.
b) Second W- Welfare of International students
- Organize session to introduce IMU and Malaysia, provide a KL city map, routes to
embassy of respective countries, organize a short tour to bring them around IMU
and possibly important places around, for example hypermarket and post office.
- From day one, assign one senior as buddy of international student, to facilitate
adaptation and prevent culture shock.
c) Third W- Welfare of Society
- Analyse and build on the success of previous Charity Run, set as annual project, assign
one pre Charity Run project to each batch.
- Enhance Santa Jerome’s home tutorial system. Create a detail timetable, which batch
and who are in charge of each week, purchase new textbooks and increased photostated
exercises. Create a fixed syllabus and system that every tutor has to follow, to ensure
consistency and student’s improvement. Provide tutorial service to more homes.
- Promote IMU Blood Donation Drive extensively, thru medias like radio and newspaper.
- Add a notice board to promote social events outside IMU and detail information on
global activities like World AIDS Day, Earth Hour and Force of Nature,
2) Promote inter-batch relationship
- “IMU Unity Day”. Twice a year activity involving all batches in IMU. All batches will
have to come out with their own performance and a PLAY/DRAMA involving all
batches.

Its kinda tough these few weeks, first I have microbiology practical, then physical pharm class test and pharmaco report submission same day, then malaysian studies, then SRC campaigning and tasks given from my dear mentor, and eventually after absorbing everything like a sponge, I collapsed and got sick. Hi everyone, in case you don't know me, let me introduce myself, I am Leong Wei Luen from P1/07, a candidate for IMU SRC Social Concerns Rep.
